Build Update + Short Term Roadmap


Over the last couple weeks, I was had updated the game to play with my friends and brother during GDC.  I'll add more details  below but it helped reinforce a few core pillars to focus on:

  • Testing one car at a time in multiplayer is not the same as people playing the game simultaneously. I do test with multiple people whenever I can, but I'll likely have to aim for 2-3 times a week instead of once to catch bugs
  • The most fun part about Carpoon is messing with other players. To reinforce this, I'll remove NPC cars during a multiplayer round, except for the occasional special NPC such as a gold car for bonus points.
  • Truck movement could still be better - I'll look into grappling onto a point to drift around corners 

I've had some requests as well to create a timeline video to show the game from the start to now and I'll look into that.

Smaller tweaks to work on include:

  • Crusher doesn't always go off, usually in situations with a truck dragging a truck after a few crushes.
  • Ghost eyes aren't too visible now that the player has to move them back to the truck. Will likely add a whole "ghost truck" after being crushed. Also, eyes only move back with the controller right now
  • Eyes other than the shocked version are small, especially on my Surface. Will consider larger version


This build does have a ton of updates though including:

  • After a crush, instead of the eyeballs moving back to the respawn point automatically, you now have to move them yourself. I added this at the last minute before heading off to GDC and it still needs refining. 
  • Two more eye expressions (happy+ angry). Angry eyes for harpooning. Happy eyes for dragging a car through the crusher.


  • Easier for multiple players to drag one car now. Added a buffer around a harpoon when grappling to avoid being cut automatically
  • Doubled the amount of reel force when spinning the analog stick
  • Crusher works when a player is 
  • Spikes now show for players going through recycling zone
    • FIXED: spikes now retract after crusher only retracts and doesn’t crush 
  • Updated controls image for controller reeling 
  • Update blurry menu edges in player select screen. They were previously 64x64 tiles and now are 1024x1024
  • Trucks don't shake as much when they are not moving

Feedback updates:

  • Halved the amount of screenshake on crushing
  • Less bounce on hitting plant box and bush
